Nunney Castle, Somerset

Nunney village is just a 10 minute drive from our home in Frome - perfect for a lunchtime stroll. It’s pretty and quaint with beautiful old houses and Nunney brook. I’d definitely recommend a coffee and cake from the local coffee shop, Moat & Turret!

Built by a local knight, John de la Mare in the 1370's, who had made his wealth through ransom money whilst fighting in The Hundred Year War.

In the 16th Century, the castle was bought by a rich man from London, Richard Prater.

During the English Civil War, the castle was besieged and ruined by the parliamentarians.

Nunney Castle is now looked after by English Heritage but is free to explore.
